Our lives are surrounded by appliances, however do you know who invent the circuit breaker that protect appliances from overloads? An early form of circuit breaker was described by Thomas Edison who invented in A.D. 1879. A circuit breaker disconnects an electrical circuitry by opening a contact when the circulating electrical current reaches levels considered unsafe for the system and human. It was a groundbreaking invention when electrical appliances are not yet in widespread use.
It was 130 years after Thomas Edison had developed the idea for appliances protection, nowadays, we are still using his concept. Circuit breaker is received some criticism because of the long respond time, which cannot respond to current overload in time. In a nutshell, simply using circuit breaker has been unable to meet the needs of security standards at this time.
How does the smart power strip define the security standards compare to the traditional one in this day and age? And in which aspects it is more efficient than the circuit breaker protection mechanism? To be continued in the next security column.
